OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
AC Service FAQS
How often should I change my filter?
The industry standard is every 3 months. There are many factors that influence this. If you have allergies, a lot of pets, open your windows a lot you may want to change them more frequently. Changing the filter of your A/C system is the number one thing a homeowner can do for themselves that can save money and extend the life of their system.
Do I really NEED maintenance?
YES! Like any mechanical system, it needs to be maintained to operate at top efficiency. The manufacturer’s warranty requires a maintenance service once a year or you risk losing the warranty. Systems that are maintained regularly cost less to operate and last longer.
Can I use any filter?
No. It is recommended to use a filter that is suitable for your system. Newly installed units come with a basic filter (depends on the purchased system). This filter should be changed within 30 days to a better filter. Each filter has a size on the paper – this is the correct size for your system. Each filter has a MERV rating. The higher the number, the more particulates are captured by the filter, but there are consequences to using higher MERV-rated filters. We recommend a standard pleated MERV 5 to MERV 8 filter.
If I buy a thermostat will you install it?
Yes. However, if you buy a thermostat from us and we install it you get a 5-year warranty from the manufacturer. If you buy a thermostat and we install it you only get a 1-year warranty. It is highly recommended you let a professional install your thermostat.
AC Sales FAQS
Will a new A/C system really save me money?
In almost every instance the answer is a resounding ‘YES!’. Newer systems are simply made to be more energy efficient. The overwhelming majority of customers see moderate to extreme savings on their electric bills. This is greatly influenced by the SEER rating of the unit you choose to have installed, with the higher SEER rating being the most efficient.
Are all A/C Systems the same?
No. There are numerous sizes and efficiency grades. These are important. You need the system that is right for you. Some offer better efficiency. Some offer a better warranty. Some offer a better price. Some offer better Financing. No two homes are exactly alike. Once you have narrowed it down the most important thing, even more, important than the brand, is who installs it. Hire an experienced, licensed professional.
What size Air Conditioner do I need? Tons?
Air Conditioning Systems are measured by tons. A ton is the cooling capacity of an air conditioning system. One ton is equal to the amount of heat required to melt one tone of ice in a 24 hour period. We know you aren’t trying to melt the ice so we recommend letting our Area Managers assess your current system and the layout of your home among other factors to determine the proper tonnage for your home.
