A ductless mini-split is a split-system air conditioner and heater that delivers conditioned air directly to a room or zone without requiring ductwork. The outdoor compressor unit connects to one or more indoor air handlers through a small refrigerant line set — typically routed through a 3-inch hole in an exterior wall. The indoor unit mounts on the wall, ceiling, or floor and circulates air silently within the space it serves.

The efficiency advantage is significant. Traditional ducted central air systems lose 20 to 30 percent of conditioned air through duct leaks in attics and wall cavities — air you've already paid to cool or heat, simply escaping before it reaches you.
